Flair Air suspends flight to Fort Nelson

Flair Air is no longer providing chartered flights from Comox to Fort Nelson, for now. The service, which transports local workers to and from Fort Nelson, ended on December 4th.
“We were notified by the charter, which is our client, that they are stopping work on the project in Fort Nelson for the time being and will not need people up there,” said spokesperson for Flair Air, Chris Lapointe. “They halted the transportation program until they restart up again.”
The private charter service, which operates every Tuesday, started in May 2011 with the intention to continue for a period of one year. But it was extended until December of this year.
The Horn River Basin project has stalled due to Enbridge Inc. acquiring majority shares of the Cabin Gas Plant development, located 60 kilometres northeast of Fort Nelson.
“Enbridge takes possession of the plant some time in the spring next year,” said Lapointe. “When they get possession of it, I’m sure they will make an announcement as to what they plan to do.”
Lapointe said Flair Air has already talked to Enbridge about offering them the chartered flight service.
“Possibly they would start it back up again the way it was, they might change it, they might change the schedule, you’ll never know,” said Lapointe.
The flight path of the service, which often has between 100 to 150 passengers, starts from Kelowna then to Vancouver, Comox, and to Fort Nelson and vice-versa.
