Airport investment $4.3 million over 2 years
Investment at Northern Rockies Regional Airport Enhancing Safety in Northern British Columbia October 14, 2014 Fort Nelson, British Columbia Transport Canada Bob Zimmer, Member of Parliament for Prince George-Peace River, on behalf of the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, today announced that the Government of Canada is investing $4,304,668 over two years for the improvement of the runway apron at the Northern Rockies Regional Airport.
This project will ensure continued safe airport operation for flight crews, passengers, airport employees, medical evacuations, and fire fighting operations. Funding is provided by Transport Canada’s Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP).
To date, through ACAP, the Northern Rockies Regional Airport has received over $8.7 million in funding for 11 safety projects, including today’s announcement.
Speaking at the airport Tuesday, Mayor Bill Streeper said. “Six years ago we were getting very little response to our applications for funding under the Airport Capital Assistance Program I approached Bob Zimmer about our non-existant funding from the federal government. He said sent me a copy of our application and today we are receiving funding from our eighth application. We have received over $7 million including today’s $4.3million.”
Previous projects included the overlay of pavement on Runway 03-21 and Taxiway A, airfield electrical system upgrades, and the purchase of a runway sweeper and snowplow truck.

Mayor Bill Streeper Northern Rockies Regional Municipality said,“The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality welcomes the ACAP funding as it will significantly improve the safety of manoeuvring aircraft, increase the operational apron area to allow for easier access to on-site services, and provide better and safer service to our users. The Northern Rockies Regional Airport has become one of the North’s busiest airports in recent years, and this airport improvement will support the growth of the community.”
