Hello officer, I’m downtown and I’m drunk

“You will know the truth and the truth will set you free” … unfortunately this is not always the case. However, this fellow should at least feel good for doing the right thing and calling the police when he started feeling a little mischievous. Early last Monday morning at 4:59 a.m. police received a phone call from a fellow reporting an intoxicated male near Irly Bird on 50th Avenue North. The male went on to tell police that he was the intoxicated male. Police attended the location where they found the very intoxicated male standing on the street. When police approached this fellow he told them he was intoxicated and wanted to fight everyone so he decided to do the right thing and turn himself in.
Police obliged the 24-year-old Fort Nelson man by loading him into a police vehicle and transporting him to the police office. Once at the police office the overly cooperative fellow told police if they looked in his backpack they would find some liquor and some joints. Police looked in the backpack and found exactly that, four marihuana joints, a part full bottle of vodka, and a full bottle of Wiser’s whiskey.
The following morning at 1:10 a.m. police observed a white GMC Pickup truck driving southbound along Airport Drive. Police noted the vehicle was getting just a little too close to the curb for their liking and decided this was an opportune time for a friendly stop and chat. When police walked up to the driver’s window they quickly discovered why the driver was hugging the curb so closely, he was quite intoxicated. Having made this determination, police obtained two roadside breath samples from the driver, both resulting in failure indications. As a result of this information police impounded the vehicle for 30 days and issued him with a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition from driving.
ATV taken from Prophet River
Several hours later at 10:30 a.m. police received a call from Prophet River reporting the theft of a red 2010 Honda TX5 ATV from of a residence he was looking after while the owner was away. Police travelled to Prophet River and met the person reporting the theft who showed police where the thief had attempted to cut through the wooden post to which the ATV was chained. When this did not work the thief retrieved a set of bolt cutters, cut the chain, and made off with the ATV. Police conducted a few local inquiries and were advised by local residents that they suspected another 24-year-old local resident was responsible for the theft. A short time later police attended a residence on Gairdner Crescent in Fort Nelson where they recovered the stolen ATV. This matter is still under investigation by police.

Not you again!
It appears driving drunk on an ATV to pick up another bottle or two seems to be the new accepted mode of transportation for a quick trip to the liquor store. Last Wednesday night at 9.27 p.m. police observed a 2008 Red Honda Foreman ATV with two persons aboard pulling into the Woodlands Liquor Store parking lot. Police stopped the ATV and beside  being obviously very intoxicated police were aware the 25-year-old woman operating the ATV was a disqualified driver as the result of a previous impaired driving incident. Police impounded the ATV arresting the woman for driving while disqualified and impaired driving. Police transported the woman to the police office where she was held in custody and eventually released before a Justice of the Peace to appear in court on August 12th to answer charges of impaired driving and driving while disqualified.

Buds and pipe in the back seat
Marijuana has a very distinct and pungent odor as does to somewhat of a lesser sense liquor which police proboscis are particularly sensitive too. Shortly after midnight this past Friday morning police stopped a Black 2011 Ford F 1 50 pickup truck along 52nd Avenue East. While speaking with the 23-year-old woman driving the truck police detected the unmistakable bouquet of freshly smoked marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle. Police advised the young woman she was under arrest for possession of Marijuana asking her to step out of the vehicle. Police searched the vehicle locating a bag containing a small quantity of Marijuana along with a Marijuana pipe. Police also located an open case of Budweiser beer in the back seat area seizing the beer, marijuana and pipe.

Burnaby man lost his vehicle for seven days
Later in the afternoon 12:10 p. m. police were dealing with speedy motorist caught driving 150 kms per hour along Alaska Highway at KM 398. Police stopped the Gray 2002 Ford Escape advising e 29-year-old driver from Burnaby that this is where his journey was going to come to an end, least in this vehicle anyway’s. Police impounded the vehicle for 7 days issuing the driver with an excessive speeding ticket for $368.00.

One very caustic gentleman.
Early Saturday morning at 1:26 a.m. police bagged another impaired driver after stopping Red 2013 Ford F 150 pickup truck pulling into the Provincal Motel parking lot. After detecting the odor of liquor on the breath of the 59-year-old Kamloops woman driving the truck police obtained a roadside sample of her breath which resulted in a warning indication. Police impounded the vehicle and issued the woman with a 3 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition from driving. Just when police thought they were done and ready to move along an intoxicated man emerged from his nearby motel room screaming and cursing police saying he hated the police and would shoot them the next time he see’s them.

Only joking?
Just to be on the safe side police politely asked the woman if her 63 year old male friend from Salmon Arm did happen to have any firearms in his possession. She  assured the police he did not and was simply upset that the police were impounding his vehicle. Police took this into consideration and left this rather rude fellow with some good advice containing with what could be interpreted as somewhat of a subliminal message or subtle warning. Threatening to kill the police is definitely not a good strategy when you are having a bad day and at the same time interacting with the police. Unlike in Fort Nelson where we have a relatively higher tolerance threshold for stupidity, in some other jurisdictions this may not be the case and threatening to kill the police could be interpreted slightly differently?

Look what I’ve found!
It’s not very often police get a report of an ATV appearing in someone’s back yard when they get up in the morning, it’s usually a report of an ATV disappearing from their yard when they wake up. However this past Saturday morning police received a report from a resident of Golo Road reporting that when she woke up she found a Gray Polaris ATV sitting in her back yard. Police attended to the complainants residence inspecting the ATV querying the serial number confirming the ATV had been reported stolen in 2007. Police impounded the ATV while they attempt to locate the owner.

One more impaired driver
It would appear the message about the pitfalls of drinking & driving just isn’t getting through to some people for one reason or another. This past Sunday morning police stopped a Black 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix on 50th Avenue South in front of the Woodlands Inn. While speaking with the 24-year-old driver from Sexsmith, AB police noted the young man appeared intoxicated smelling quite strongly of liquor. As a result of these observations police obtained two roadside breath samples resulting in two failure indications. Police subsequently impounded the vehicle issuing the driver with a 90 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition from driving.

Didn’t he notice the mosquitoes
This guy picked the wrong deck to crash on for the night. Sunday morning at 8:20 a.m. police received a report from a resident of the Bear Track Apartments that he awoke to find an unwanted guest sleeping on his deck. The complainant told police when he grabbed the male to remove him from his deck the male woke up and ran off taking a header along the way getting back running down the street. Police attended to the neighborhood where they located the extremely intoxicated sockless and shoeless man staggering down the street. Police loaded the 32-year -old Fort Nelson man into the police truck hustling him off to the police office where he was provided with another place to sleep where he would not be woken up quite so abruptly.

Bloodied and belligerent
The mouth is a mighty effective tool when operated by folks with something useful to say, however in the case of some folks the mouth is simply a rudimentary tool used to trumpet own stupidity. Early Monday morning July 29th at 2..39 a.m. police received a report of two males fighting at the Shannon Motel with one male bloodied. While police were responding the complaint they observed a male running cross the Alaska Highway  near 54th Street. Police observed the male was being followed by another male with no shirt and blood running down his face. Police stopped and detained the very intoxicated bloodied male asking him what was taking place. The bloodied male told police he had been in a fight and the victim of a sucker punch. Police arrested the bloodied male for public intoxication placing him in the back seat of the police vehicle. The bloodied male told police the other male they had seen running across the highway was his younger brother not the person he had been fighting with. By this time the 22 year old Fort Nelson man was starting to become verbally abusive and belligerent with police who on the advice of BCAS personnel transported the man to hospital to have his face looked at. While be examined by the nurse the young man continued his belligerent behavior, being extremely rude and abusive making completely uncalled for obscene remarks directed at the nurse trying to help him. It was quite apparent that if the young man could run his mouth off in this manner there was no reason why he could do the same thing from a jail cell which is exactly where he ended up. Police are continuing to investigate this incident.
