Christmas at Toad River

Twas the week before Christmas and over at Toad Hall
The sound of music and cutlery could be heard by us all
The students were ready they’d practiced for weeks
But their bellies were too full of turkey and sweets
The audience were settled down for a long winter’s nap
But when the show began they sat up with a snap
With jokes that were funny and songs festive and bright
They were wide awake and laughing and said “This is alright!”
Then Santa showed up to the children’s great glee.
And gave out all the presents stashed under our tree
His eyes were a twinkle, dressed in red from head to toe,
He looked just like the song “We love Santa! Ho, Ho, Ho!”
Then, can you believe it? We ate some more sweets,
And out into the quite chilly night we did creep.
We trudged homeward through the ice and the snow
We were very sleepy but happy we put on a good show.

Twas the night before Christmas and what did we see,
but more Christmas presents put under our trees,
We’re so lucky we cried as we opened them up,
hiking boots, dinky cars and all kinds of trucks,
We got helicopters, sleds, games and lego galore
chocolates, ponies, princesses and yes we got more!
Some received instruments like mandolins and guitars
Others got a bow release and new clothes they could wear
On Christmas Day we played with all our new presents
Then we ate some more food that gave off scents made in heaven
Turkey, ham and chicken, mashed potatoes too,
and Laughing Cow Cheese that’s so fun to chew!
Brussel sprouts, yams and more yummy treats
The food’s never ending and so good to eat!
We ended with cake, it was such a big feast,
We won’t be hungry now for hours at least!

Twas the week after Christmas, we’re still not in school,
But the weather is warm now and we’ve lots we can do.
There’s sledding and skating on the newly flooded rink
And ice-fishing at Muncho is the most fun I think,
And then for New Year’s we did eat some more,
At Ms. Hay’s open house with yummy treats galore,
Then more fun to be had on our quads and ski-doos,
Riding and sliding downhill, shouting Yahoo!
But now we’re back in school and there’s work to be done,
But every now and then we’ll still have a some fun.
We had a good Christmas at Toad River, it’s true!
