Additional work awarded along Sierra Yoyo Desan Road corridor Fort Nelson

A $13.9 million contract has been awarded to upgrade an additional 30 km of the Sierra Yoyo Desan Road, a primary route for the continued development of the province’s oil and gas industry. This upgrade will improve safety and road strength, and reduce travel time for all users. Project details:
• This contract is for work on Sierra Yoyo Desan Road, from KM 61 to KM 90.  The existing road will be widened from approximately eight metres to 9.2 metres.
• The surface will be strengthened, drainage will be improved, and the road will be dust-controlled for improved safety.
• A $13.9 million contract has been awarded to Hoban Equipment Ltd. from Salmon Arm.
• Work will begin in January 2013, with completion in October 2014.
“With this contract award, improvements to over 91 km of Sierra Yoyo Desan Road are either complete, underway or pending. These upgrades will provide a safer, more efficient route for industry to access B.C. oil and gas resources, which supply local and world markets,” said Peace River North MLA Pat Pimm Additional information:
• The Sierra Yoyo Desan Road provides a 188-km link from Fort Nelson into the Horn River Basin and Cordova Embayment shale gas fields and to conventional natural gas and petroleum producing fields.
• This upgrade builds on the B.C. Jobs Plan goal of strengthening infrastructure to get our goods and services to market.
• This project is funded by the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Natural Gas (www.gov.bc.ca/ener/). and is being managed by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure ( www.tranbc.ca).
