OTTAWA – Bob Zimmer, Member of Parliament for Prince George-Peace River, made the following statement regarding the announcement that the Harper Government intends to sell Ridley Terminals Inc.:
“As a key player in the development of our mining sector and an important part of Canada’s Asia-Pacific Gateway, Ridley Terminals has tremendous growth potential. I believe, along with our Government, that the private ownership will allow this potential to be fully realised.
“This decision is yet another example of our Government’s commitment to using taxpayers’ dollars responsibly and efficiently and is consistent with our ongoing asset management review goals. By moving away from public ownership, Ridley Terminals would align with other major marine terminals in Canada, which are owned and operated by the private sector.”
Ridley Terminals Inc. is a Crown corporation that operates a bulk-handling terminal for the efficient and reliable movement of commodities, on land leased from the Prince Rupert Port Authority in British Columbia.
The Canada Development Investment Corporation (CDIC) will serve as the Government’s agent to ensure that any sale process is conducted using best commercial practices. A federal Crown corporation reporting to the Minister of Finance, CDIC’s mandate is to manage selected commercial interests of the Government of Canada.
The sales process will commence in the coming weeks with a market sounding. Parties interested in the sales process should contact CDIC for further information at RTI_info@cdiccei.ca.
