Update on fatal rail accident at Gutah

FORT ST. JOHN. – A 30-year-old man from the Peace Country, B.C., is dead after being crushed by a derailed fuel tanker in a remote area north of here on Wednesday.
CN conductor Bryan Geisbrecht was killed at 5:10 p.m. while working at a CN yard in the area of Gutah, B.C., 160 km south of Fort Nelson, B.C., Warren Chandler, senior manager for public affairs with CN, said.
“This is a tragic occurrence and there will be a full investigation,” he said.
Chandler said two CN train crew members were involved.
“One was fatally injured, one was not injured,” he said.
Three other CN employees were working in the vicinity, but were not involved, Chandler said.
Fort St. John RCMP said they received a call from CN rail at 5:15 p.m. on Nov. 28 about a train car that had derailed and rolled onto a CN employee.
None of the other four workers were injured, Cpl. Jodi Shelkie of Fort St. John RCMP said.
“It wasn’t a train moving along the tracks. The train was stopped and they were switching some cars out,” she said. “They were putting some cars on the train and taking some off. One of the cars derailed while they were doing that.”
