Northern Rockies Fire Rescue has hosted Fort Nelson’s Remembrance Day Ceremony for the past 22 years, and their Chaplain, Keith Lutsiak (at podium) has been Master of Ceremonies for 21 years. The FNSS band, community choir, RCMP, Cadets and many others took part on stage and on the floor throughout the ceremony. Lutsiak’s final message was about remembering our history and learning from it; “We are doomed to repeat it if we don’t remember who died. We have to work harder to stop war – only we can do it.”
As Lutsiak retires and he and his wife embark on travel, he says, “No matter where I am in the world on Remembrance Day, my heart will always be in Fort Nelson, in this Rec Centre. This community comes out in droves every Remembrance Day. Our veterans understate themselves, but we are here to show how much we appreciate them. With about a month of organising those on stage are but a sample of how many volunteers join in the planning each year.” More inside.
