Two students from R.L Angus School would like to share some Remembrance Day thoughts with you. While we were creating a Remembrance Day display for our front entrance way, we were struck by how young some of the soldiers were in many of the photos we used. It didn’t seem right that these young men and women who looked just a little older than us should be fighting for our freedom. On one of the pictures there was a message written by a soldier named John Maxwell Edmonds. It read: “When you go home, tell them of us, and say, for their tomorrow We gave our today” We were amazed that the men and women in the photos were willing to unconditionally sacrifice their lives for us. While we were looking for a Remembrance Day poem, the poem that we liked the most was “In Flanders Fields” by John McRae. That poem reminded us of some meaningful memories in grade five when we had to sing the poem in our Remembrance Day Assembly. This year the grade five students will once again lead our Assembly. It is important for young people in Fort Nelson to appreciate all that has been done for them, the cost of their freedom and the importance of peace. On Remembrance day we honour those who have given their lives serving Canadians and helping people of other nations.
