Veteran landlord Fred Miller releases book,
“They Call Me Fred… The Landlord”

VICTORIA  – In his book “They Call Me Fred… The Landlord” (published by Trafford Publishing), author and accidental real estate investor Fred Miller gives the whole truth – and nothing but the truth – in how he went from a down-and-out bachelor to a successful landlord.
“The reader has to ask themselves,” writes Miller in his signature humour, “‘How did this dummy end up in a house, all bought and paid for, and he didn’t have a clue what he was doing?’”
In “They Call Me Fred… The Landlord” Miller lays bare his hilarious and entertaining forays into home ownership. From one look at the book’s back summary, readers will soon surmise the fun and bumpy ride ahead:
A hilarious and true look at the life of a landlord. Fred Miller was your typical beer drinking, pizza eating bachelor until one day he became a landlord. This lapse in judgment had 12 years of disaster written all over it. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you’ll scream “I don’t believe it” but unfortunately for Fred… it was all true!
There is something for everyone in this book — whether you are dealing with banks, lawyers, real estate agents, appliances, City Hall, tenants, illegal suites, golf, fishing, Morning Glory or Revenue Canada, it’s all here.
In addition to being laugh-out-loud funny, “They Call Me Fred… The Landlord” also provides moments of inspiration, encouraging readers that while the road to success may not be pothole-free, it is nonetheless a trip worth taking.
About the Author
Fred Miller was a 33-year-old “beer and pizza bachelor” who was forced into real estate at the closing of the Home Ownership Grant, into which he had an $8,000 investment. “Buy a home or be taxed,” is how he describes the ultimatum. With little idea what he was doing, Miller jumped into the real estate market. He added a four-plex to his duplex, then another house with an in-law suite, then another house – this one a waterfront property – with another in-law suite. He sold everything after 12 years. Now happily married, Miller has a 4,000 square foot home on 176 feet of waterfront on half an acre.
