December 22nd, 1932 – July 18th, 2010
Born Albert Ross Skeldon to Fred & Milly Skeldon in Saskatoon, Sask, known to all as Ross. Ross was a twin to Roy John Skeldon, they were one of three sets of twins, and in total Ross had 13 siblings. Ross left Saskatoon in 1955 with his older brother Lloyd and traveled by motorbike to Whitehorse, Yukon. For the next nine years as a single man, Ross worked with the US Army Corp. of Engineers building bridges along the Alaska Highway. Ross fell in love with the North and it is here that he met his wife Rita in 1964. They met while they were both working at Mile 442 “The Village”. Ross and Rita settled in Fort Nelson in 1964 and raised their three daughters, Thora, Carol and Barbara, here. Many of you will remember Ross from his years working as a maintenance man for the School Board or on the crew with Coal River Maintenance. Dad always had a repertoire of colourful phrases and sayings. While most would think he was a gruffy “grumpy” old man, to those who knew him his bark was way worse than his bite and he really was a soft touch. For his girls Ross was the easy touch, the one to approach if you wanted a later curfew or something new. However, it was a secret he could not keep from Rita. Dad was known for his mischievous grin. When you saw that grin, you knew he was up to no good and often meant he was tormenting someone, usually his grandsons. Dad was predeceased by his wife of 43 years who passed away July 1st, 2008. Ross is survived by his three daughters, Thora Barnes, Carol Seidel (Rick), Barbara Dyck (Glenn), grandchildren Tara, Deanna, Tyrel, Blake, Ryan and a set of twins on the way! Mom & Dad, you’re together again…we miss you and love you both!
